David Oberlin Family
Oberlin Brothers Adam Oberlin, son of Frederick and grandson of the Revolutionary War Sergeant, was born 1801 in Shippensburg, Pennsylvania. Adam lived for about 20 years in Stark County, Ohio, where he married Mary Wagoner in 1825. The Oberlins and Wagoners settled in Dekalb County, Indiana about 1847.

At left are Adam's sons, Adam W. Oberlin (b 1846), Samuel W. Oberlin (b1843) and David W. Oberlin (b 1841). As was common at the time, the middle initial stood for their mother's maiden name, Wagoner.

Adam and Sam were Civil War veterans, both serving in the 44th Indiana Volunteer Infantry. Sam saw considerable action during his three years in the field where several cousins, in the same unit, were killed or injured.
